EDF's Power System Engineering Centre (CIST)
CIST is focusing on several potential projects in the UAE, such as burying 130km of 400 kV lines or installing submarine cables to connect islands or offshore platforms to the mainland. Other projects include network studies for integrating renewables, batteries, and constructing control and dispatching centers for different governements agencies and authorities, such as Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC), Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), DEWA, and TRANSCO, etc.
EDF, KEPCO, Kyushu Electric Power Co. to hold combined 40% stake in ADNOC and TAQA
EDF, KEPCO, Kyushu Electric Power Co. hold combined 40% stake, developing and operating the sub-sea transmission line for 35 years alongside ADNOC and TAQA. This first-of-its-kind subsea transmission network in the MENA region will connect ADNOC’s offshore operations to TAQA’s clean onshore power network, unlocking cost-savings and environmental benefits. Moreover, this trategic sustainable power project will reduce ADNOC’s offshore carbon footprint by more than 30%, further strengthening its environmental credentials and supporting the UAE ‘Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative’. Over 50% of project value will flow back into the UAE’s economy under ADNOC’s In-Country Value Program driving responsible local investment and value creation.
Power system studies for Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA)
EDF, through its Power System and Transmission Engineering Centre has conducted numerous strategic projects contributing to to interconnecting the Emirates and has backed the construction of distribution centers in Abu Dhabi and Al AinEDF signed the first-of -its -kind sub-sea transmission network project to decarbonize ADNOC’s offshore operations.

Substations for Emirates National Grid, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and TRANSCO
Emirates National Grid is one of EDF’s historical clients in the region. Our teams created the interconnection of the Emirates transportation network and have been awarded with this project in 2003 by the Ministry of Energy.
Between 2008 and 2013 EDF won and built several substations for DEWA. Several famous districts in Dubai have gained from the 400kV substation, such as Mamzar Beach, Barsha, Technology & Nad Al Sheba.
Moreover, another 400kV substation at Bab, and extension of 220kV substation at Asab and associated 400kV and 220kV lines were launched by TRANSCO in 2010.
Substations for Barakah nuclear fleet
EDF won a contract for building the evacuation station of units 3 and 4 of the Barakah power plant. After completion of the energization of the workstation, Unit 1 of the first UAE nuclear plant was commissioned in April 2021.
Substations for Etihad Water & Electricity
EDF, through the Power System and Transmission Engineering Centre is building up 8 new 132/33/ 11kV substations. This project is coming in addition to the 3 132/33/ 11kV substations built up from 2017 to 2019.
Worldwide cable reference
EDF has conducted numerous strategic projects from feasibility study of interconnecting transport networks in the Emirates to backing the construction of distribution centers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah and Fujairah.
Our teams supported the installation of several new 400kV substations for DEWA and TRANSCO and completed the first project for a 400kV underground link in Dubai.
The underground ventilated tunnel covers 19km and brings more than 3,000MW to the heart of the city, ranking this project as a world reference.
Overhead lines in Hatta and Shamkha-Sweihan
At EDF, we are constantly looking for improving and optimizing our projects. We keep focusing on implementing technical solutions by using efficient and approved technologies.
For Hatta, one of our projects, located in Dubai’s mountains, we compiled different expertise to connect the future 250MW Hydro Pumping Storage Power Plant to the transmission network.
We built 100km of 400kV lines and 400kV overhead lines and are providing remote control and modifications on the network.
